Food colouring
We have recently stopped using food colouring in the following dishes:
- Tandoori chicken
- Chicken Tikka (and all dishes containing Chicken Tikka)
- Lamb Tikka (and all dishes containing Lamb Tikka )
- Keema (used in Keema Naans, Sheek and Shami kebabs)
A number of customers have already asked us if their Chicken Tikka Vindaloo, for example, contains "normal" chicken and not chicken tikka. We want to reassure our customers that we are not trying to mislead them in any way. The food looks different solely due to the lack of colour.
With the recent change in attitudes towards foods containing E numbers, we feel it's important that we take this step as it may have a knock on effect with other restaurants and therefore do the community a service in the long term.
Although food colouring used in Indian restaurants is not banned in UK and is still considered safe to consume. Until such time that a more natural method of food colouring becomes available, we will continue to refrain from using these products in our food.
